I. Call To Order and Roll Call
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 PM.
Members Present: Sue Cauthen, Nanette Duffy, Booh Edouardo, Consuelo Faust-Anderson, Roger Kallen, Carol Kocivar, Douglas Ryan, Janis Seeman, Lorri Ungaretti, Mark Vogel, Peter Warfield, Daniel Weaver. Members Absent: Ann Dalton, Maryam Daryabegi-Farhang, Shawn Donaldson, Gayle Leyton, Margaret Whitten
II. Approval of Minutes
The minutes were unanimously approved as amended by Peter Warfield.
Douglas Ryan volunteered to take the minutes.
III. Public Comment
None
IV. Report of the Chair and Vice Chair
The Chair reported on the coordination meeting with the City Librarian Luis Herrera. He announced that three tours have been scheduled for LCAC members:
(1) Main Library Access Services on Wednesday October 26 th at 6 PM,
(2) the Technical Services Building at 190 9 th Street on Friday October 28 th at 4 PM, and
(3) a POE Construction Tour on Dec 16 th at 4 PM.
V. Old Business
There was discussion about the August 24, 2005 minutes of this committee, especially about the first sentence of the seventh paragraph of the fourth item. Consuelo Faust-Anderson moved that we “replace the first sentence of the seventh paragraph of the fourth item with the original sentence.The sentence to be replaced in Faust-Anderson's motion is: “Peter Warfield mentioned that he was troubled by the fact that the Chair and the Vice Chair were having regular monthly meetings with the City Librarian Luis Herrera which were not reported or announced to the LCAC. The original sentence reads: “Peter Warfield mentioned that he was troubled by the fact that that the Chair and Vice Chair were having occasional meetings with the City Librarian Luis Herrera.After much discussion, the motion was withdrawn.
VI. New business
Marcia Schneider, Laura Lent, and Jason Honig gave a presentation on collection development and usage data.
The Capital Projects Subcommittee moved that “The LCAC: Commends the SFPL for moving books out of closed storage and recommends continuation of this practice to the extent possible; and recommends: Installation of prominent street and way-finding signage at the Larkin, Fulton, and Grove Street entrances; Installation of street and compass directional orientation signs on all floors above the first at central locations such as the elevator/stairway entrances; Installation of a railing or stair marking system at the atrium entrance and the Larkin Street stairs; Creation of better access to the children's area; Design of a warm and welcoming space in the first floor reading room by use of attractive décor, comfortable seating (possibly Naugahyde upholstery) and brighter and warmer lighting.
After much discussion, the motion was withdrawn and sent back to committee to be reworked.
