Laptop Grants Program for At Risk Youth

This program provides free refurbished laptops and computer training to selected college bound foster care youth and other youth under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court System. The nonprofit City Youth Now administers the Laptop Computer Grants Program.

Applications are submitted on behalf of the youth by a social worker, CASA, probation officer, attorney, or other adult authorized by the court to provide services to the youth. For application forms, seeLaptop Computer - Individual Grants Program. Applications are now closed until 2009.

City Youth Now selects recipients with input from the Independent Living Services Program and the Juvenile Court system. Note that they do not accept requests directly from youth or their caregivers.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Foster Youth between the ages of 17 and 22.
  • Juvenile Probation youth between the ages of 16 and 19.
  • Enrolled in College or Vocational School.
  • If enrolled in College, require a min. G.P.A of 2.0
  • If enrolled in Vocational School, require 3 letters of recommendation
  • If college bound, required to submit letter of acceptance and proof of enrollment.
  • Youth required to submit semester report cards.
  • Youth who do not continue to meet the eligibility requirements are required to return the computers.
  • Applications for Foster Youth must be submitted through the ILSP
  • Youth required to attend computer training workshop at ILSP/Early Morning Studies Academy
